CBD Oil…

Marijuana, Medical Marijuana, Hemp, Cannabis, CBD OIL. What are they? They all come, basically, from the same plant species.

The above mentioned terminology of products on the market, are in the news today, emerging on the level, as having health benefits. But do they? They are being considered by the media, the medical field, and etc., as ‘herbal health supplements’. But are they? I have talked to and interviewed many people about their views on the subjects to be discussed today. The result? Confusion! Most folks are confused about what they are, and how they have become to be so talked about…to the point of voting on them in order for the public to use them. Therefore, I will try to explain in simple terminology the what, the why and the how of these products so you can make your own decision whether they are for you, or good for your individual ailments.

MARIJUANA – what is it? It is described in most dictionaries, as coming from the cannabis sativa plant species, and is especially smoked or consumed as a psychoactive (mind-altering) drug. My Taber’s Cyclopedic Medical Dictionary adds – it comes “from leaves and flowers of the Indian hemp plant (another name for the cannabis sativa plant species).” It is “psychologically habituating but not habit-forming. Withdrawal of marijuana causes no such physical symptoms  as opiate withdrawal does. The drug is considered to have no medical value.”

MEDICAL MARIJUANA– The Beginning of Legalization. In 1996, California first passed legislation legalizing medical marijuana. By the end of the decade, Alaska, Maine, Oregon, and Washington and then Colorado had followed suit. There are different types and strains of legalized marijuana/medical marijuana that I will not go into at this point of time. They include, indica, sativa, hybrid, recreational, etc. This is a very ambiguous topic to discuss.

HEMP – what is it? Found on the computer – Hemp, or industrial hemp, typically found in the northern hemisphere, is a strain of the Cannabis sativa plant species that is grown specifically for the industrial uses of its derived products. It is one of the fastest growing plants and was one of the first plants to be spun into usable fiber 10,000 years ago. It can be refined into a variety of commercial items including paper, textiles, clothing, biodegradable plastics, paint, insulation, biofuel, food, and animal feed.

CANNABIS – According to Wikipedia, “Cannabis, also known as marijuana among other names, is a psychoactive drug from the Cannabis plant used for medical or recreational purposes. The main psychoactive part of cannabis is tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), one of 483 known compounds in the plant, including at least 65 other cannabinoids. Cannabis can be used by smoking, vaporizing, within food, or as an extract.” Scary in my book. Here in Florida, it is the Cannabis in the vaporizing form that parents and teachers are concerned about, because in the High Schools, vaping  has grown to epidemic proportions among the High School students. The educators are saying the THC that is in the Cannabis vape liquid or oil, etc. destroys the brain cells. And, since a young persons brains are not fully developed at this point in their lives, the damage can become debilitating and permanent. Think about it folks! Do you want these kids becoming the leaders of our country in the future?

CBD OIL – What is it? This is the main topic of my discussion. CBD Oil has emerged as the alternative to marijuana usage, especially for medicinal purposes. It was presented on the Show ‘SHARK TANK’ TV by a gentleman who was hopefully trying to get the ‘Sharks’ support for his product – CBD oil. From what I understand in the news, all of the Sharks backed him. As I watched the show, when I realized it was about CBD oil, and knowing somewhat about CBD oil, I changed the channel, thinking the Sharks would not back him because of the relationship of CBD to marijuana. I was wrong in my thinking. Then, some of my clients started asking me about CBD Oil. Not really being that interested in it before, my curiosity was now piqued. Research, here I come. The reality of the Resurrection of the Savior overwhelms our heartbreak with hope because with it comes the assurance that all the other promises of the gospel are just as real—promises that are no less miraculous than the Resurrection.
(Paul V. Johnson
The love and sacrifice of Jesus Christ is the antidote for every negative aspect of our lives. Because of Him, we can overcome sadness, despair, anxiety, hatred – and someday, even death.

All over the world, people celebrate Easter in their own way, but the message is still the same. HE DIED THAT WE MIGHT LIVE!  MAY GOD BLESS YOU ALL!

Test Kitchen – Rinds?

Jeff Yeager – noted author of ‘The Cheapskate Next Door’ stated that “A ‘rind’ is a terrible thing to waste.” So what is a Rind? It is the outer layer of  – in this case – a vegetable or a fruit. There are multiple uses for produce rinds, peels, skins, etc. and ways to extract benefits from them before they end up in the compost pile. Listed below are some of the ways.

  • JamImage result for pics of fruit and vegetable skins and rinds We all know that orange rinds are put into ‘Orange Marmalade’ jam.  Other fruits besides oranges can be made into ‘marmalade’, they include lemons, grapefruit, limes, tangerines and even kumquat ( Image result for pic of kumquat fruit  the little orange fruits that are about the size of a large grape). I have a kumquat tree. Love the fruit. You can eat the whole thing rind and all. The sweetness is in the rind.
  • Cornhusks: Another use most of you are familiar with…make sure the husks are from sweet corn and dampened, then wrap fish and other seafood in it. You can serve the fish in the husks.  Image result for images of corn husks
  • Easter Egg Dye: With Easter coming up, try boiling organic Easter eggs with onion skins to naturally create wild yellow and orange eggshells.
  • Olive Oil: Add citrus peels to olive oil for flavor and to reinvigorate oil that’s getting old.
  • Image result for pics of papaya skinsFoot rub: I like this one. Rub papaya skins and pulp on the bottoms of your feet to help soften and soothe the skin. The papaya skins are rich in Vitamin A and papain, which breaks down inactive proteins and removes dead skin cells. Papaya is such a versatile fruit. Many face creams and facial peels are made from this fruit. The fruit is great in a smoothie.
  • Shoeshine: If you want a ‘spit-shine’ on leather shoes, polish them with the slippery side of a banana peel.  Image result for free pics of fruit rinds
  • Houseplants: Banana peels may also be used to shine the leaves on houseplants to make them sparkle; this also serves as a natural pesticide and fertilizer.
  • I also use them by rubbing the inside of the peel on my legs and arms to soften and give nutrients to the skin.
  • Hair Dye: Image result for free images of potato peels I will have to try this one. Boil potato peels in water for about a half hour, strain and let cool. Rinse the hair with this water after shampooing. It will gradually darken grey hair without any synthetic chemicals.

Wow! There are so many little hints that are not costly. Many of you may be aware of stuffing fruit and veggie peels inside  a chicken or turkey before roasting to give it extra flavor. Many potpourri are made with all types of dried citrus rinds, apple peels, pomegranate skins and other fruit trimmings. You can boil lemon rinds in water on the top of the stove in order to freshen the air in the kitchen. Scoop out an avocado shell and use the shell as a biodegradable pot to start garden seedlings in. I like this one the best – use as pest control in your garden or yard. Sprinkle ground-up nutshells on the ground or crushed egg shells. Slugs and other pests can’t stand crawling across the rough texture.

MAKE A NOTE: As when working with any foods, thoroughly wash the rinds of produce or anything that is to be eaten even when it is organically grown.

Thank you Jeff Yeager – these are great tips for those folks who are not aware of them.  They are great recycling tips for Fruit and Veggie Scraps.

You can’t see them or feel them, although sometimes you can smell them.

WHAT ARE THEY? Toxins are dangerous substances in the environment that are absorbed by, and build up in, your body. They damage your immune system and are definitely linked to many health problems. Toxins include a number of things such as carbon dioxide, cigarette smoke, pesticides, heavy metals, air pollution, chemicals, electromagnetic radiation, formaldehyde, antifreeze, artificial preservatives, and much, much more.

Toxins are a toxic nightmare that endangers a person’s health and as well as your life. They damage the immune system and make you more susceptible to illnesses more than just the flu. The build up of toxins in the body can affect your blood pressure, memory, digestion, respiratory system, cholesterol, circulation, weight, heart, joints, energy, liver, kidneys to mention just a few things.

Does the build up of toxins just happen overnight? How do you know your affected by toxins? The build up is not just an overnight thing? You have been exposed to toxins from the day you were born (I might even say conceived). Toxins are all around us. They are on things you touch, in the air you breathe, the food you eat, the things you drink, etc.  Toxins, even in small amounts, can make you sick, and sometimes, even kill you.

So, how do you breathe them? We forget about our exposure to what we think is just normal, such as the pollutants in carpet, mold, mildew and dust mites; asbestos found in older buildings and homes which damage your healthy cells making them look like they’ve been riddles with bullets; spores from air conditioning units which can cause asthma and bronchitis; chemical vapors from aerosol cleaners, floor and furniture polish, bleach, ammonia, bathroom cleaners, insect sprays, hair sprays, perm solutions, hair dyes; fumes from chemically treated furnishings; human skin and cat dander.

I found these to be interesting facts, in my research, that – BENZYL ALCOHOL used in perfume, soaps and shampoos irritates the upper respiratory tract and causes headache, nausea, dizziness and a drop in blood pressure. LINALOOL – also found in perfume, hand lotions, nail polish remover, hairspray and laundry detergent can cause respiratory disturbances and central nervous system disorders. TERPINEOL – used in bleach, after-shave and roll-on deodorants can cause respiratory depression, headaches, and loss of muscular coördination. WOW! The list goes on and on to include other dangerous chemicals such as, acetone, benzaldehyde, benzyl acetate, ethanol, camphor, ethyl acetate, limonene, methylene chloride, and many other. If you can’t pronounce them, stay away from them.

Image result for free pics of toxic pesticidesThere has been a lot of talk about PESTICIDES in the news, because of the product called ROUND UP from the Monsanto Company. When I checked the labels of other pesticides, they contained the same chemicals as Round Up. It is mentioned only that they are dangerous, but what does exposure to them do to your body? Here is what they do to your body – they weaken and/or destroy your immune, endocrine, reproductive and nervous systems. They have been linked to breast cancer, allergies, arthritis, fatigue and headaches, aging and continued illness of all kinds. Did you know that because pesticides are oil soluble, they can be store in your fat cells, and can stick around in your body for a long time; that when released from your fat cells, there are always harmful results.

Image result for free pics of toxic metalsDangerous Metals, another threat to your health, are coming to the forefront in the news. The big one is MERCURY. According to Edward Arana, D.D.S. “Dental amalgam fillings can release mercury, tin, copper, silver and sometimes zinc into the body.” It has been said by the EPA that if you buried just one amalgam filling in your backyard, you would be guilty of polluting the soil. Hippocrates – known as the father of medicine, remarked on the toxicity of mercury over 2,000 years ago. Mercury has been used in industrial processes and medications for over 1,000 years. Mercury is responsible for the old saying, “mad as a hatter” because or it causing brain damage in people who worked with mercury compounds in the hat-making industry.

The modern-day ailments that ‘mercury’ is linked to, today, include: mood swings, abnormal heart rate, anxiety, constipation/diarrhea, cold hands and feet, sleep disturbances, lowered libido, headaches, fatigue allergies, short-term memory problems, difficulty walking and tremors.

So, how does it get into your system from your teeth? Because Mercury is soluble, it can be absorbed into the lungs, nasal passages, stomach, teeth roots, gum tissue, and through the roof of the mouth – which is inches away from the posterior pituitary gland, the MASTER GLAND, which is a regulator of the lower endocrine system and controls the reproductive hormones. It accumulates in all tissues, but specifically in the brain. It is stored in the pituitary gland and hypothalamus, and thus POISONS THE ACTIVITY OF BOTH.

Other metals that are dangerous to your health include nickel (used in cheaper types of jewelry made of stainless steel); lead – found in gasoline, lead-based paints, old toothpaste tubes and ceramic glazes. Lead exposure can cause learning disabilities, hair loss, nerve damage, and frequent colds, difficulty concentrating, depression, anxiety and numbness; aluminum – higher concentrations of aluminum in the blood have been found in the brain cells of Alzheimer’s patients; mercury, along with cadmium or arsenic can cause autism.

Again, the food you eat and drink – to include water have been found scientifically to be overrun with toxins (especially foods that have come into the United States from other countries). Water contaminants include fungicides, insecticides, fuel additives, solvents, degreaser’s, benzene, vinyl chloride, toluene, styrene, etc. These chemicals can cause liver and kidney damage, birth defects, cancer, and more. Other toxins, I may have overlooked or forgotten to mention include: chromium, barium, thallium and on, and on.

Look for and be aware of the following symptoms for toxin contamination:

  • fatigue, irritability, dizziness
  • behavior disorders, weakness, headaches
  • muscle cramps, loss of motor control
  • breathing problems, fainting spells,
  • constipation, mood swings,
  • learning disabilities, stiff neck
  • sensitivity to sounds, penetrating smells, cigarette smoke, dust, or cut grass
  • brain fog – difficulty in concentrating, decision-making, etc.
  • Central Nervous System depression and much, much, more.

I have given you a lot to think about. It is SCARY STUFF!

DETOX, DETOX, DETOX!  The whole purpose of my blogs. The IMMUNE SYSTEM is central to your health. The IMMUNE SYSTEM is involved with all other body systems, and ties them all together. It is the number one defender against toxic invaders.

The process starts with defending your immune system by providing the ammunition needed to control the harmful substances that find their way into your body. As I have said before and say again it is mandatory that you change your life style and eating habits by:

Image result for free pics of toxins

  • Eating a diet balanced with a minimal to NO PROCESSED FOODS.
  • EAT NO MEATS – especially red meats
  • Eat minimum amounts of Chicken, Turkey, and/or FISH if you must have meat.
  • Drink plenty of purified or filtered water (half of your weight in ounces)
  • STAY AWAY FROM SMOKING, DRINKING ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES, and/or CAFFEINATED BEVERAGES, SODA POP, and I now include many of the SPORTS DRINKS as they are highly caffeinated.
  • Use PRESCRIPTION  DRUGS AND PAIN MEDICATIONS only as needed until your body tells you that it doesn’t need them any more.
  • In Other Words – the BEST way to get the nutrients your body needs is with WHOLE NATURAL FOODS.

Have I made even a dent in your thinking process. I hope I have. However, CHANGE is a decision you have to make for yourself.

Anyone who has experienced ‘sciatica nerve’ pain, knows it hurts, hurts, hurts. It is debilitating pain. So, exactly what is ‘SCIATICA’?

Image result for free pics of sciatic nerve

My handy Taber’s Cyclopedic Medical Dictionary says this – “sciatica pertains to the hips or ischium. The sciatica nerve is the largest nerve in the body, arising from the sacral plexus either side, passing from the pelvis through the greater sciatic foramen, down the back of the thigh, where it divides into tibial and peroneal nerves. Lesions cause paralysis of flexion and adduction of toes, abduction and adduction of toes, rotation inward and adduction of foot; plantar flexion and lowering of ball of foot; paralysis of dorsal flexion and adduction of foot; rotation of ball of foot outward and of raising external border of foot and of extension of toes; also anesthesia in cutaneous distribution.”

The usual terminology is ‘SCIATICA’ – simplified it is described as ‘severe pain in the leg along the course of the sciatic nerve felt at back of thigh running down the inside of the leg.’ Compression or trauma of the sciatic nerve or its roots, especially that resulting from ruptured intervertebral disk or osteoarthrosis of lumbosacral vertebrae. Inflammation of the sciatic nerve results from metabolic, toxic, or infectious disorders. The discomfort may begin abruptly or gradually and is characterized by a sharp shooting pain running down the back of the thigh. Movement of the limb generally intensifies the suffering. Pain may be uniformly distributed along the limb or infrequently in certain spots. Numbness and/or tingling may be felt; the nerve may be extremely sensitive to touch. Symptoms usually grow worse at night and on the approach of stormy weather. Duration of a sciatic attack varies from a few days to several months. In longstanding cases, muscles grow atrophied and/or rigid. Treatment should be started early in order to have an early recovery.

Image result for free pics of sciatic nerve

Treatments vary from surgical to plain old exercise. Surgical intervention takes place if there is damage due to a ruptured intervertebral disk. Exercise programs are important for any sciatic treatment plan. It includes stretching and strengthening parts of the body that may be causing irritation of the sciatic nerve. The underlying cause of sciatic nerve pain dictates the course of exercise applied, since you are dealing with the discs and the spine. Rest is important, to keep the body relaxed, which in turn allows it to heal. If it hurts while exercising, decrease the stress of the exercise or stop immediately. NOTE: it is important that you do not become completely bed bound due to the sciatic pain. Lying in bed for more than 2 days or prolonged periods of time has been shown to make the sciatica worse.

Other treatments include improving your general health by balancing your diet with good nourishing food. Drink more water. When you are dehydrated, parts of the spine become deflated causing more pressure on the sciatic nerve.  AVOID INFLAMMATORY FOODS – especially anything with a high sugar content. A great food, but not good for some folks is peanuts. Peanuts contain a lot of magnesium which is crucial for allowing muscles to relax.

Image result for free pic of supplementation for sciatica pain

For you who are allergic to peanuts choose other food with a high magnesium content, or take a magnesium supplement. Herbal supplements can include Tumeric (high quality), and I have found a good foot massage helps as well.

All of the above will keep you from using prescribed methods of pain killers to include Morphine and Demerol or any of the newest pain killers on the market that contribute to the opioid epidemic that is consuming our nation. The afore-mentioned treatments can be effective, but you should not just choose random treatments for your pain. It is important that you choose the right treatment for the underlying CAUSE OF YOUR SCIATICA,  in order for there to be a healing process and/or improvement. Last, but not least, BE PATIENT. Sciatica Nerve pain healing does not just happen overnight. The amount of time it takes depends on the cause of your pain and your committment to getting well.
